Kailee's Fight Club Golf Outing – Thursday, June 18

Some days on the golf course are memorable because of the scores.

Others are memorable because Mother Nature decides to put on a show.

Thursday, June 18, was definitely the latter.

From the moment we pulled onto the course at Hunter’s Ridge, the sky looked like someone had spent all night painting it by hand. Every few minutes the masterpiece changed. One minute it looked calm and peaceful, the next it looked like the opening scene of a disaster movie. The clouds rolled, shifted, darkened, and brightened all day long.

And while the clouds were changing, so were the golfers.

Golf Hecklers was strategically stationed on the #1 tee box, perched at the top of a downhill fairway. At first glance, the hole looked intimidating enough with bunkers on the right within reach. Then add a 72 mph headwind blowing directly into the faces of these optimistic golfers and suddenly confidence became optional.

With houses lining both sides of the fairway and roughly 80 yards of room to work with, you'd think everyone would be safe.

You'd think.

Let's just say somewhere in the neighborhood, a few lawnmowers may soon be launching Titleists back toward the fairway like Nolan Ryan fastballs. There were plenty of houses hit, a few roofs tested for structural integrity, and several tee shots that immediately entered the witness protection program.

Some golfers looked comfortable standing over the ball.

Others looked like people who had recently been handed golf clubs for the very first time and were simply hoping for the best.

And honestly, we respect that.

Because mixed in with the snap hooks, worm burners, sky balls, and emergency homeowner alerts, we also witnessed some absolute missiles. A handful of golfers launched drives that made us temporarily forget every bad shot we'd seen before them. There were some truly impressive swings throughout the day.

But as always, the thing we notice most isn't the golf.

It's the laughter.

It's the smiles.

It's the teams having fun together, chirping each other, and embracing the chaos.

What Paul, Traci, and the entire army of volunteers continue to put together for Kailee's Fight Club is absolutely top-notch. The organization, the energy, and most importantly, the cause itself, make this event one we always look forward to returning to.

To the sponsors who bring us in to provide the heat on the first tee, thank you.

To everyone who donated, volunteered, sponsored, or simply showed up to support Kailee's Fight Club, much love.

Thank you for having us back.

Yes, we remembered a few of you.

Yes, we now have even more memories.

And yes, our golf vocabulary has improved slightly since last year.

Only slightly.
