When the Pond Won: Golf Hecklers at the ICHBA Outing
The Iowa City Home Builders Association golf outing was a tad warm. Okay...it was really warm. The thermometer was flirting with the 100-degree mark, and the humidity wasn't far behind. It was the kind of day that made you wish you had a fresh change of clothes waiting for you at the turn.
The golfers, however, seemed to have hydration well under control. Judging by the number of adult beverages being consumed, I can only assume it was all part of a strategic mosquito-repellent program.
We spent the day on the par-3 12th hole at Saddleback Ridge in Solon, Iowa, where golfers faced a simple challenge: a cornfield on the left and a pond on the right. Based on the results, I'd say both hazards had a fantastic day. The farmer should have an outstanding harvest of Pro V1s this fall, and I'm pretty sure the pond's water level rose at least an inch from all the golf balls that found a new permanent home.
Let's just say we witnessed far more "creative" golf shots than great ones but that's exactly what makes these outings so much fun.
A big thank you to our sponsor, MetroNet, for supporting the hole. They provide blazing-fast fiber internet, which came in handy when golfers needed to order a fresh sleeve of golf balls after donating the last one to either the pond or the cornfield.
Thanks again to the Iowa City Home Builders Association for inviting Golf Hecklers back, and to Saddleback Ridge for being such a great host. We always have a blast bringing the laughs to golf outings, and this one certainly didn't disappoint.
